"Passage of Matashu" IP
"IP" (In Progress) Conceived while doing a field sketch of the riverscape and black bear tracks at one of our campsites on the George River, Nunavik (Quebec north of 55 degrees north latitude). In this studio piece, I have changed the black bear tracks to Grizzly (though not to my satisfaction yet). "Matashu" is the Innu name for "Red Bear" which was their term for an isolated population of Barrenground Grizzlies now known to have persisted in northern Quebec into the early 20th Century.
"Misurtuq Gold"
One of five Golden Eagles we saw near La Colline Misurtuq on the George River, Nunavik. While the scene is accurate to my experience, I did not get usable reference of the eagles during the trip. By chance, I was invited to join a crew on the Rio Grande only three months later and had ample opportunities to photograph Goldens up close. They are the National Bird of Mexico.
